Three packages earn Cans of the Year honors.

Three packages made byBall Corp.have been chosen to receive Cans of the Year Awards 2011. The awards were presented at the international Canmaker Summit in Istanbul, Turkey.

Besides a gold award in the Aerosol Can category for a 30-ml can manufactured for G. Bellini deodorant and shaving products, Ball received a silver award in the Beverage, Two Piece category for a 56.8-cl aluminum can with special finishes for Foster’s lager beer. The can was manufactured in Germany for Heinenken, UK Ltd.

The company received a silver award in the Bottles category for the 16-ounce Alumi-Tek® bottle for Miller Lite beer. Ball’s popular Alumi-Tek bottle is resealable, lightweight, quick to chill and easy pouring, offering a bottle-like drinking experience in a sustainable metal can. The bottle was made at Ball’s manufacturing facility in Monticello, IN.  Demand growth led Ball to build a second Alumi-Tek line in its existing beverage can plant in Golden, CO. That line will begin production in the fourth quarter of 2011.

“The can’s superior sustainability story – along with Ball’s new, innovative and eye-catching graphic capabilities – allows for valuable on-shelf differentiation for our customers,” says Jim Peterson, Ball’s vice president, marketing and corporate affairs. "Winning three Cans of the Year awards validates our ongoing efforts.”
