Fresh Express cuts plastic in half

New products from the Fresh Express unit of Chiquita Brands come in flexible packaging that uses 50% less material. The new Fresh Express line of “artisanal salads” are packaged in bags, trade-named Natursave, that use half the plastic of last year’s Spring Greens package. The bags use a vertical window that runs nearly the length of the package, providing an even better look at the product. The Natursave name and the “50% less plastic” claim are included in the bag’s graphics. The bag won a 2010 Packaging Innovation award from the United Fresh Produce Association. The artisanal line comprises two initial flavors, Sierra Crisp Herb and Wild Rocket Zest.
