Organic peroxide technology developed jointly by Purac and AkzoNobel helps improve the performance of polylactic acid (PLA) bioplastics. The additives control the polymerization so PLA can be processed conveniently in standard polymer processing equipment. The organic peroxides selectively switch off polymerization catalysts, improving PLA’s quality and stability. The resulting polymer is more stable in melt processing and has consistent flow properties while maintaining a positive environmental profile.
