Clear Lam Packaging Inc. has won a 2014 AmeriStar Award for its Fisher Roasted Party Peanuts PrimaPak package from the Institute of Packaging Professionals (IOPP), the second major award for this new patented technology — the package has also recently won a DuPont Packaging Award. Developed by Clear Lam to replace bulky rigid jars, blow-molded containers, injection-molded packages, composite cans and dysfunctional stand-up pouches, the PrimaPak package is a flexible, stackable and reclosable packaging produced on a vertical form-fill-seal (VFFS) machine.
Because it is stackable, the PrimaPak technology is designed to improve package cube by 30 percent or more, aiding in truckload and warehouse space savings, reducing fuel costs and greenhouse gas emissions. The Fisher Nuts PrimaPak package was produced from a single roll of flexible film incorporating the Prima ExoShell made with recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) and the Peel and ReSeal lid system, eliminating the need for pre-formed bases, lids, labels and shrink bands. By combining all components of the finished package in one roll of film, millions of pounds of packaging waste are eliminated. These benefits reduce the amount of packaging entering landfills.
