Women comprise 47.5 percent of the working population, yet they are underrepresented in the manufacturing industry—making up only about 33 percent of the manufacturing workforce in the United States.(1) PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, established the Packaging & Processing Women’s Leadership Network (PPWLN) to recruit, retain and advance women’s careers in packaging and processing. The PPWLN encourages young women to pursue STEM careers as automation in the manufacturing industry adds more advanced jobs that require specialized skills.
