Gail Levy, CEO, HFactor
Gail will share the history of how she conceived HFactor in 2014 and the ensuing three years of research and development until the brands official launch in 2017. She will share the challenges and triumphs of creating a brand that was not only unique as a new product category but a new packaging concept in beverage. During it's conception, no one in the US could (or would) make her product, so she had to go off shore to avoid high minimums and costs. Gail also explored fitments and caps as well the flexible pouch and doyenne bottoms. During this presentation you will learn from Gail's experience including what she discovered about retail selling portals, ecommerce, shelf presence and the way to improve in all retail outlets. The presentation will conclude with present day, a nascent packaging concept in beverage and a look to the future asking, how do we create a flexible packaging pouch revolution?
Recently concerns about global warming and ocean plastics have been growing and we have to tackle them for future generations. DNP will explain how AlOx and SiOx technology enhance high barrier film properties and how this can help to achieve a sustainable future.

Mintel will share intriguing data, reveal new consumer sentiment, and challenge conventional thinking about the death of packaging as well as its undead future.
Jeff Abel, Principal Packaging Engineer, Adept Packaging
Companies face cost challenges every year. Many look to reduce packaging material costs to save money. However, how many times can an organization reduce material thickness or pouch dimensions before compromising quality? Another option for cost reduction is SKU Rationalization or Reduction. Any company that finds itself with a number of similar size pouches of similar structure or specification can benefit from SKU Rationalization. The key to realizing savings from this practice is understanding what Pouch SKU’s can be combined and how to do this without compromising product/package quality.

Bruce Welt, Professor, University of Florida
Welcome to the war on plastics. While COVID-19 has offered a reprieve, winning requires simplification, robustness and versatility. The old model of transporting, sorting and redistributing waste for material-specific “recycling/reuse” represents intractable, impactful and expensive problems that will never be adequately. EPR only subsidizes this failure. Robust technologies are needed that can deconstruct waste into primary resources for manufacturing. Plasma Assisted Gasification/Vitrification (PAG/V) is uniquely robust and can accept unsorted waste, which is converted to syngas. Syngas can be used to make new plastics without compromise. Syngas is the key to circular economy sustainability.
Chat with other conference participants via GoToMeeting. Choose from one of two topics - Design for Recyclability or Adhesives and Coatings - or attend a little bit of both!
Mark Thompson, Partner, Keller & Heckman
This presentation will provide an overview of the regulatory requirements for packaging materials used for cannabis and hemp-derived products. This will include a summary of FDA’s evolving regulatory scheme concerning these products in view of the 2018 Farm Bill, and other key developments. Against this backdrop, we will explore the legal requirements that apply to packaging materials for such products in the United States.
Justin Markel, Business Development Manager, Hoffer Plastics Corporation
Pablo Pussell, Key Account Manager, Mespack

Dennis Calamusa, President & CEO, ALLIEDFLEX Technologies, Inc.
Flexible Packaging has revolutionized the packaging of our food and most other consumer products by maintaining freshness, extended shelf life, safety and convenience. In recent years Flexible Packaging has been under growing attack due to end of life challenges by environmental and consumer advocates when compared to other easier and more traditionally recyclable alternatives. Our panel will level the playing field by advocating for what the packaging industry is doing to overcome these challenges and also raise awareness of how Flexible Packaging is actually the “greener” more environmental choice when compared to most alternative packaging formats. Flexible Packaging is here to stay and the industry will continue to evolve and adapt to meet the needs of the vast global market.

Thomas Blaige, Chairman & CEO, Blaige & Associates
Utilizing 34 years in mergers and acquisitions, Tom Blaige will discuss exit strategies for companies in the pouch converting sector. Successful deal making is both an Artistic and Scientific process and remains crucial to success in today’s rapidly consolidating market. The “Science” will include M&A Trends, consolidation trends, headline deals in packaging and Case studies. The “Art” will review maximizing value, a process which takes place both before and during sale, as well as available transaction options. He will cover exit strategies as well as how to maximize value and growth as discussed in the Blaige proprietary Nineteen Year Plastics and Packaging Mergers and Acquisitions Consolidation Study. On average, approximately 70% of 2001’s top 50 plastics and packaging companies in each sector have undergone a change of ownership or been eliminated, thus large consolidators are making it more difficult for small and mid-cap (independent) processors to survive and thrive. In summary, Mr. Blaige will reveal valuable strategies designed to help company owners understand how to navigate and succeed in today’s mergers and acquisitions environment.
