Bruce Welt

Professor Welt is a chemical engineer with advanced degrees in Food Science and Agricultural & Biological Engineering. Dr. Welt has expertise in polymers, process engineering and packaging. His laboratory has made significant contributions in areas of gas permeability test development, supply chain traceability and circular economy sustainability.
Before arriving at the University of Florida, Professor Welt worked for GE Plastics, Nestle R&D and was co-founder of Kariba Farms, Inc., a specialty foods company that was sold in 2018 and remains in operation today. Dr. Welt came to the University of Florida to help to build a new undergraduate program in packaging engineering. Today, UF’s Packaging Engineering program serves about 130 students from UF’s College of Engineering.
