Sun Chemical increases ink offerings to meet growing market demand

Parsippany, N.J.-based Sun Chemical expanded its comprehensive metallic inks portfolio. The expansion comes at a time when converters and brand owners seek high-impact packaging solutions that enhance shelf appeal, support design flexibility and deliver premium visual effects across global applications, the company says.
As brands compete for consumer attention in crowded retail spaces, Sun Chemical shares that metallic ink provides a powerful way to create depth, brilliance and differentiation, enhancing shelf impact. The company’s metallic inks help elevate packaging with striking visual effects across labels, folding cartons and flexible packaging.
With a full range of metallic inks, Sun Chemical’s offerings are designed for flexographic and gravure printing. The inks are available in water-based, solvent-based and UV-curable technologies that integrate into a variety of workflows.
Leveraging internally developed, high-performance pigments and the expertise of its pigment portfolio, the company offers a broad spectrum of bright effects that range from cost-effective finishes to high-luster and mirror-like results, it says. Sun Chemical’s portfolio includes an array of metallic flake geometries, including cornflakes, silver dollar and vacuum metallized pigments (VMP). The variety of offerings gives customers the flexibility to achieve the desired balance of brilliance, opacity, visual effect and cost performance.
Aside from enhancing aesthetics, Sun Chemical’s metallic inks also support sustainability initiatives on certain applications by helping brands reduce reliance on metallized films and foils while maintaining visual appeal, it adds.
“Converters and brands are looking for solutions that combine visual impact with performance, flexibility and sustainability,” said Jim Felsberg, director of product management, packaging inks, Sun Chemical, in a statement. “Sun Chemical’s metallic inks deliver premium brilliance effects across a wide range of substrates and print processes, helping customers create distinctive packaging while supporting sustainable packaging initiatives.”
