Constantia Flexibles was recently awarded the prestigious German Packaging Award for 2015. The company’s ReLap packaging innovation won in the category for foodstuffs and pet food.

The German Packaging Award recognizes clever and sustainable solutions for users and consumers alike. The most important criteria included technical advances, innovative materials, new features, sophisticated designs and sustainability. There were close to 200 entries in six different categories.

“Congratulations to our team that have brought innovative film-based flexible packaging to life,” says Stefan Grote, head of the Food Europe division. “I would like to above all mention Werner Geitner und Ingo Geillersdoerfer, the Technical Product Managers at the company’s Weiden plant, who made ReLap into a winner.”

Due to the combination of different technologies such as lasers, partial laminating, as well as the application of coatings, ReLap has enabled novel composite structures which prevent contamination of the adhesive surface by the filling material. The result for the consumer is a pouch with a convenient approach, including a fast and easy re-close. Also, this technology requires no modifications to existing packaging machines. Because similar functions on the market are not yet known, the ReLap concept was chosen by an independent jury.
