Working with Williamsburg-James City Council Public Schools in Virginia, Printpack hosted a group of students and local officials on Oct. 7 for Manufacturing Day 2016, which is a nationwide annual event that invites the public into local manufacturing facilities to learn about the industry and career opportunities for the next generation of American workers.

Printpack showed its visitors an overview of the company and a tour of the plant.

“Printpack values participating in Manufacturing Day and enjoys being able to host this group of local students,” says Tamara Smith, process engineer at Printpack. “It’s important that we talk about the many opportunities that manufacturing has to offer. There are a variety of paths that students can take to build successful careers in manufacturing.”

Reports have shown that hosting an MFG Day event is an effective way to develop positive perceptions of manufacturing among young people and students. A survey conducted by Deloitte Development LLC of students who attended MFG Day events in 2015 found that after the event 81 percent of students were more convinced that manufacturing provided careers that were interesting and rewarding, and 62 percent were more motivated to pursue a career in manufacturing.
