Kuraray’s MonoSol division has announced that its water-soluble film manufacturing plant in Portage, Indiana, has been awarded NSF International Certification Guideline 229, Functional Foods.
The certification verifies the facility operates in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) that are consistent with the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) guidelines for food products (21 CFR 110). MonoSol manufactures water-soluble, food-grade films that are transparent, odorless and tasteless. Customers globally use the film to create pre-portioned packets for a wide variety of food products, including coloring, spices, cocoa, oils and many other ingredients. Dissolvable packets with premeasured ingredients streamline food and beverage manufacturing and help reduce cross-contamination and dusting in kitchen or manufacturing applications.
“Achieving this rigorous certification is a testament to our ongoing commitment to manufacturing excellence and, more specifically, our dedication to those customers who require that their supply chain for food products meet NSF Guideline 229,” says P. Scott Bening, president and CEO, MonoSol LLC. “Our customers choose pre-portioned packets made with dissolvable films because unit dose packaging helps ensure consistent quality and flavor and offers added convenience.”
NSF International is a global independent organization that writes standards, and tests and certifies products for the food, water, health sciences and consumer goods industries to minimize adverse health effects and protect the environment.
Bening added, “This certification gives our food packaging customers and partners the peace of mind knowing that MonoSol is dedicated to investing in their success, and it further demonstrates our leadership in the water-soluble film industry.”
