Brampton Engineering’s SCD 4.0 Die Now Offered for Retrofit on All Existing Blown Film Lines

March 21, 2018

Brampton Engineering has announced that its SCD 4.0 die is now available for retrofit on existing lines regardless of age, model and manufacturer. This move allows more clients to experience its die technology, especially in areas of the world where capital investments are not available to fulfill the markets demands for higher quality film.

“The market demands more layers and SCD 4.0 is the only co-extrusion die that enables producers to process each polymer in a multilayer barrier film structure at it’s ideal temperature, opening ourselves to retrofit projects that will provide our existing installed base and new clients with other technologies the ability to capture new market opportunities and fulfill the market’s demand for complex film without the need to secure capital to buy a complete new line,” says Brampton’s chief executive Gary Hughes. With this initiative Brampton hopes to expose more

At the heart of every Brampton Engineering multi-layer blown film line is the ground breaking SCD 4.0 die technology. With a direct path from the extruders and streamlined melt channels, BE achieves the shortest melt residence time and lowest wetted surface area in the industry. Every SCD module in a multi-layer die shares this outstanding advantage, unlike cylindrical die technology which increases melt volume and wetted surface geometrically with every additional layer.

Every resin has its ideal processing temperature, but if it spends too much time at elevated temperatures, thermal degradation will discolor and damage it. SCD 4.0 ensures optimal film quality and minimal downtime for purging and die cleaning with a 2-pronged approach, minimizing residence time and eliminating dead spots were resin can move slowly, and ensuring resin can process in an optimal way.

A retrofitting project is ideal for lines that require specific process improvements. Normally, these projects allow results that range from boosting productivity, improving quality and product performance, and a more profitable process at just the fraction of a cost of a new line.
