NOVA Chemicals Partners with M. Holland, Osterman & Company for Butene LLDPE Distribution in Mexico

April 17, 2018
NOVA Chemicals Corporation has entered into branded distribution agreements with M. Holland Company and Osterman & Company to distribute butene linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) in Mexico, building on the success both companies have established with NOVA Chemicals in the U.S. and Canada.

Butene LLDPE is used in a wide range of bags and flexible packaging. NOVA Chemicals’ butene LLDPE is known for its excellent balance of physical properties, product uniformity and consistency, and best-in-class gel performance.

In December 2016, NOVA Chemicals started up its expanded PE1 LLDPE facility in Joffre, Alberta. The new capacity will help meet the growing demand for polyethylene in Mexico and customers throughout the Americas.

“We greatly value our relationships with M. Holland and Osterman & Company, and we are excited to expand our Mexico sales with both of them,” said Todd Becker, vice president, sales, NOVA Chemicals’ polyethylene business. “This is another critical step in our journey to provide the best products and service to customers and converters in Mexico.”

Both distributors have strong ties to Mexico. M. Holland, a North American distributor of thermoplastic resins, formed M. Holland Latinoamerica, S.de R.L. de C.V. after acquiring Mexican plastics and chemicals distributor Grupo Solquim of Mexico City. Osterman & Company, a global plastic resin distributor, formed Osterman Plastics de Mexico S. de R.L. in 2015.

The agreement with NOVA Chemicals aligns well with M. Holland’s growth strategy, according to M. Holland President and CEO Ed Holland.

“We have great synergies with NOVA Chemicals and have enjoyed a long-standing relationship with them in the United States and Canada,” he said. “As we continue to leverage opportunities for expansion, such as our acquisitions of Grupo Solquim in Mexico and two resin distributors in Puerto Rico, it’s vital to have partners such as NOVA Chemicals, whose vision and innovation dovetail well with our commitment to meeting customer needs.”

The affiliation with NOVA Chemicals in Mexico will bolster Osterman’s already-robust product offerings, said President John Dwyer.

“The addition of NOVA Chemicals’ LLDPE butene resins to our product line fills an important need in the Mexican market,” he said. “Offering this high-quality NOVA Chemicals’ product, as well as having access to their top-notch technical support, will allow us to further expand our Mexico sales and round out our Latin America supply offering.”
