Sofidel Group Achieves CO2 Emissions Reduction Through Focus on Sustainability

May 8, 2018
Italian tissue manufacturer Sofidel Group has reduced direct emissions of carbon dioxide by 20.6 percent, thanks to strategic focus on sustainability.

Sofidel, with 1.1 million tonnes of annual production capacity, believes companies have the responsibility in guaranteeing long-term social and environmental advantages for stakeholders at all stages of the value chain.

The group is the first Italian manufacturer and the first company in the world from the tissue sector to join the WWF Climate Savers project, aimed at market-leading businesses with regards to the low carbon economy, which sets particularly ambitious objectives.

Sofidel reduced direct CO2 emissions through investments in energy efficiency, the use of cogeneration plants and the use of renewable energy sources. Moreover, the group has limited water use in its production processes to 7.1 liters/kg (the industry benchmark is 15-25 liters/kg). The group also acquires pulp from sources with forest certifications (FSC, FSC Controlled Wood, SFI, PEFC).

Located in Porcari, Italy, Sofidel Group is present in 13 countries and has more than 6,000 employees. It pulled in €1.72 billion in 2017.
