New box-style, woven polypropylene bag is ideal for granular products

April 12, 2016

A new tear-resistant, woven polypropylene bag with a stable, square base is now available from the Consumer Goods Packaging Division of Mondi (mondigroup.com) in North America. The new product, called the WPP (woven polypropylene) Box Bag, is designed for secure packaging of powders and granular materials, including grass seed, fertilizer, cat litter, laundry detergent, flour, sugar and rice.

The product of extrusion lamination technology, Mondi’s WPP Box Bag has a multilayer woven polypropylene structure that offers high durability and product protection throughout the packaging lifecycle. The bag’s square base and box-style design allow for upright positioning on pallets and in shipping containers. The box can also stand upright on store shelves for maximum promotional impact.

“The new bag is another example of Mondi being in touch with our customers every day,” says Ross Bushnell, president, Mondi Jackson, Consumer Goods Packaging. “Customers reported a high failure rate for conventional paper bags carrying dense, granular materials. We developed the WPP Box Bag in response to this feedback. The new bag is more durable and less susceptible to punctures and tears than multiwall paper bags used in similar applications. At the same time, it is less expensive than another packaging option for granular materials, metal pails.”

Mondi’s WPP Box Bag offers a large surface area for brand messaging. It can be printed in up to 10 colors using rotogravure or high-definition flexographic processes. Matte finishes can be applied to the bag’s printed areas, adding visual depth and producing an appealing contrast with the packaging’s glossier images.

The new bag can be equipped with an integrated die-cut handle or label handle for convenient carrying and easy pouring. A number of easy opening and reclosing features for the bag are also currently in development. The bag is available in sizes ranging from 16 to 40 inches (400-1000 mm) in height and 10 to 18 inches (250-450 mm) in width.
