Chicago Plastic Bag Ban OK'd by Council Committee

The Chicago City Council will decide next week whether to ban the use of plastic bags at most stores in the city.
The Council Committee on Health and Environmental Protection unanimously okayed the ordinance Thursday.
Restaurants and small, independent retailers would be exempt.
Mayor Emanuel reportedly supports the partial ban.
It would go into effect in August of next year at larger stores and a year later at smaller ones.
