Once a year, the Flexographic Technical Association (FTA), located in Bohemia, N,Y., recognizes outstanding technical solutions in flexographic printing. With the presentation of the FTA Award, the association has for the first time honored RKW, the leading manufacturer of plastic films and nonwovens. The business unit RKW Finland was recognized together with the Finnish company Marvaco, a manufacturer of repro and printing plates. 

 

For the Carlsberg brewery, RKW Finland manufactured a high-quality packaging film for the “Falcon BBQ” beer brand. In particular, the goal of the project was to create an eye-catching design since that brand of beer was only intended to be sold and marketed in the summer months. Therefore, there were special challenges to consider in terms of the print: Three different designs had to be printed simultaneously in three strips across the entire width of the machine. This was enabled through the use of the Esko Full HD flexographic print technology in the color combination CMYK plus white. This new technology allows for a brilliant contrast – at the same consistent level of print quality. 

 

The result of this work was recognized with the “Gold & Best of Show Award” at the FTA 2014 Excellence in Flexography Awards in the mid-web category. “We accept this award with an enormous amount of pride and are very excited to have received the recognition from the industry,” says Juha Lähdetkallio, supervisor printing of RKW Finland. “And in future we will continue working hard to present our customers’ brands in the best possible way.”
