During the recent FPA Fall Executive Conference, Peter Ricchiuti, a Wall Street Investment Visionary and Author, discussed “The State of Wall Street and Tips for Your Finances.”

Peter teaches at Tulane University’s Freeman School of Business, where his insight and humor have twice made him the school’s top professor. He started his career with the investment firm of Kidder Peabody, and later managed over three billion dollars as the assistant treasurer for the state of Louisiana. In 1993, he founded Tulane’s highly acclaimed BURKENROAD REPORTS student stock research program. Peter also hosts a popular weekly business show on National Public Radio in New Orleans called “Out to Lunch,” and recently published his first book Stocks Under Rocks.

At the moment, Wall Street is optimistic. Demand is strong, e-commerce is gaining in popularity, and there is continued cost cutting, restructuring, and consolidation. The economy is solid and has been since 2009. There have been 98 straight months of economic expansion, the third longest in U.S. history.

When looking at purchasing stocks, Peter suggested looking at companies who are under-followed by Wall Street; where management owns a good portion of the company’s stock; have good profit margins, but not great; and companies that have a good balance sheet.
