As consumers grow tired of unhealthy beverages such as soft drinks, water consumption continues to be on the rise. According to the International Bottled Water Association, bottled water surpassed 13 billion gallons in 2017. But with plastic water bottles under scrutiny, companies are looking for innovative alternative packaging formats such as bag-in-box.
It’s been over a year since DS Smith Plastics, Rapak introduced its water bag-in-box film into the market and recently, several manufactures have followed in Rapak’s footsteps and announced new developments of their own bag-in-box packaging in the market.
One of the key challenges of packaging water is that it is highly susceptible to absorbing off-flavors or odors from the packaging material. Rapak developed Eco-Pure, a high barrier EVOH-polyethylene bag for its bag-in-box water, providing oxygen barrier and durability. The Eco-Pure bag includes an ultra-clean, specially formulated, inner film layer free of additives to ensure excellent organoleptic properties that protects the quality of the water.
