Renewable Resource Derives Polybound Polymer Modifiers Commercialized by Addivant

Addivant USA LLC announces the commercialization of POLYBOND 6009 and POLYBOND 6029, the company’s first polymer modifiers derived from renewable resources, developed to act as coupling agents or compatibilizers in formulations where high renewable content raw materials are desired.
 
The volume and types of thermoplastic materials derived from renewable resources have been growing for several years, with global production capacity for these biopolymers, expected to more than triple by 2020, to an estimated 26.5 billion pounds of resin. Many of the early applications used only the neat resin or were blends of the neat biopolymer with other polymers. Today, we see more focus on reinforcing these biopolymers with other natural fibers such as wood, rice husks, flax, hemp and others, requiring the use of POLYBOND polymer modifiers derived from renewable resources.
POLYBOND 6009 and POLYBOND 6029 do not use petroleum-based feedstocks and both contain greater than 95 percent renewable content raw materials. Biopolymers incorporating the new POLYBOND products benefit from enhanced mechanical and physical properties resulting from the chemical coupling of the polar and non-polar components of the formulation. In addition, these materials can be used as a tie layer in multi-layer extruded applications where a high renewable content is desired.
 
The launch of the new POLYBOND 6009 and POLYBOND 6029 grades complements a growing portfolio of Addivant additives developed from renewable resources. Products such as the novel Genox high performance, phenol-free stabilizers derived from rapeseed oil, function as both a primary and secondary antioxidant to offer excellent melt flow and color protection during polyolefin processing.
