Recently, FPA’s Environmental, Health & Safety Committee hosted its quarterly safety webinar, which focused on static fires. This event, which is a benefit of FPA membership, provides information with FPA members on safety related topics including U.S. OSHA initiatives, rulemaking and compliance inspections. 
 
During the webinar, Kelly Robinson, PhD, PE of Electrostatic Answers LLC discussed Preventing Static Fires: Best Practices & Controls for Printing and Converting Operations. Kelly explained that a flexible packaging company that adopts best practices for controlling static is taking significant steps towards preventing static fires.
 
Kelly discussed common sources of charging and presented best practices for neutralizing static at the sources. She also stressed that fires ignited by static discharges (sparks) my result in human suffering and significant economic loss.
