According to a report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Printpack will close its Hazelwood, Missouri plant, a move that will result in the layoff of the facility’s 115 employees. The report says that Printpack recently notified the Missouri Division of Workforce Development of its intentions, with the layoffs scheduled to occur between March 25 and June 30.

The move coincides with Printpack’s intentions to invest $25.7 million in an expansion to its Newport News, Virginia plant – a move, according to the state of Virginia, that will create an additional 50 jobs.

“We are pleased to be expanding our business in Virginia and are very appreciative of the support from the Governor, the Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the City of Newport News,” Jim Stevenson, Printpack director of operations, said in a statement on Virginia.gov. “Printpack pioneered the barrier rigid container business in Virginia in 1984 and we have been growing here ever since. After considering other locations for our expansion, we decided to expand in Virginia largely because our well-established, capable workforce provides us a solid base of expertise to build upon. Additionally, strong relationships with and support from our local governments made expansion in Virginia a solid decision.”
