The Flexible Packaging Association (FPA) has created a new infographic that illustrates why brand owners need to more effectively communicate the environmental benefits of flexible packaging to consumers.
In the last year, as many as 350 brand owners and retailers globally have announced plans to make all of their packaging recyclable, compostable or reusable by the year 2025. At the same time, some of these companies are going a step further by saying they plan to reduce the use of virgin plastics in their packaging — often by as much as 50 percent.
Consumers push the trends in this market, which include flavor diversity, health and wellness appeal, convenience/resealability and clean label. There are opportunities for manufacturers, such as sustainable processes and increased productivity levels, to keep up with demand.
TC Transcontinental Packaging is adding two Windmoeller & Hoelscher VAREX II blown film lines, including one barrier line for its Whitby, Ontario plant. These new lines will support TC Transcontinental Packaging's growth in multilayer barrier films in North America and are scheduled to start up in the fall of 2019.
While many brands are striving to create lighter, more environmentally friendly and innovative packaging solutions, there are still too many products on the market today that are heavily over-packaged or over-engineered.
