CherryMan launches cherry industry's first retail PET container
CherryMan, the country's #1 maraschino cherry brand, is now offered in a new PET (polyethylene terephthalate) jar that is recyclable, BPA-free and PVC-free. Consumers will be drawn to the modern, squared-off shape and the fun engaging CherryMan graphics on the label. Retailers will benefit from the lighter weight, lower shipping costs and greatly reduced breakage risk that PET offers.
"Many manufacturers are moving away from glass containers and towards PET packaging because it is strong, lighter weight and less expensive to ship," states Josh Reynolds, Gray & Company President. "Food safety is paramount. All of our retail maraschino cherries are pasteurized for the consumer's protection. The temperature-sensitive precision required to heat a PET jar while maintaining structural integrity for capping and labeling is very challenging. It's been a focused team effort for the past several years among R&D, engineering and our vendors."
