Nobelus Launches Pair of New Thermal Pre-Lams for Digital Flexible Packaging

Nobelus, a leading supplier of print web films and thermal sealants, is launching two new thermal pre-laminations that cater to the digital flexible packaging market. StrataFlex™ Thermal Pre-Lams mark the company’s first steps into structural flexible packaging solutions made from multiple material layers.

Both products in the StrataFlex Thermal Pre-Lam line consist of a METPET core that provides a moisture and oxygen barrier. One side of the pre-lam is made up of PE, which serves as a sealant layer, while the other side includes a thermally activated EVA adhesive. This design enables thermal converters to reverse print on the print web of their choosing and thermally laminate the pre-lam using their existing equipment. StrataFlex Thermal Pre-Lams are available in metallic silver or white, an option that eliminates the need to flood the print web with white ink.

Roy Langlois, Product Manager at Nobelus, says, “These thermal pre-lams are really a unique solution for the needs of the digital flexible packaging space. They combine the speed to market and higher margins of digital printing with the workflow efficiency of reverse printing while still supporting thermal lamination.”

Whereas most digital flex pack converters currently surface print on a pre-lam and use a thermal laminate to finish the packaging, StrataFlex Thermal Pre-Lams enable converters to reverse print on thinner films before laminating the structure. This method helps reduce bonding issues while offering significant workflow improvements and extending the life of digital press components, such as blankets.

"By reverse printing on longer rolls of adhesive-free film, thermal converters can drastically reduce the number of material changeovers their press sees,” says Ryan Chai, Nobelus Strategic Accounts Solution Specialist. “This leads to hours more uptime each day, not to mention higher production volume and better-quality results. These pre-lams will change the game for any converter who has invested in thermal lamination.”

StrataFlex Thermal Pre-Lams are part of the Nobelus Foundations Collection, a recent expansion to the Nobelus flexible packaging portfolio. The collection also includes four newly launched EcoElement™ PE Thermal Sealants, ideal for thermal converters who need PE on demand. Nobelus will be showcasing StrataFlex Thermal Pre-Lams and EcoElement PE Thermal Sealants at Dscoop Edge 2025 in Booth 545.

Attendees are invited to visit the booth to speak with a solutions specialist and explore how products in the Foundations Collection can benefit their business.
