Amcor, a global leader in developing and producing responsible packaging solutions, has announced that its Sélestat manufacturing site in France has achieved ISCC PLUS certification. The site is an Amcor center of excellence for the development of materials for use in capsules and hoods for bottled wine and spirits. This certification makes it easier for Amcor customers to use recycled and bio-based content in their packaging, and to verify associated sustainability claims.

ISCC PLUS is an internationally recognized framework that supports the transition to a circular economy. It helps companies to integrate bio-based and recycled content attributed via mass balance, through proper chain of custody tracking.

The certification of Amcor’s center of excellence in Sélestat, France, enables the company to offer ISCC PLUS certified circular and bio-circular material in its capsule laminate, which is primarily used in capsules and hoods to seal bottled wines and spirits. Bio-circular resin refers to waste and residues of biological origin from agriculture, forestry and related industries, helping to reduce reliance on fossil-based virgin plastic.

“Achieving this certification marks a significant step forward as it enables our customers to access laminates for use in wine and spirits overcaps using ISCC PLUS certified circular and bio-circular material,” says Peter Roelandt, sales director for Europe, Middle East and Africa, Amcor. “As wine producers look to incorporate more sustainable materials in their products, this certification helps us to better support our customers in the transition to a circular economy.”

More information on Amcor’s range of closures for wine and spirits can be found here: https://www.amcor.com/products/beverages/wine-spirits/emea.
