PMMI, The Association for Packaging & Processing Technologies, the owner and producer of PACK EXPO Las Vegas (Sept. 23–25, 2013; Las Vegas Convention Center) has released a schedule of educational sessions at the Center for Trends & Technology: Improving Production through Innovation (CTT) sponsored by Rockwell Automation and its Partner Network™. Topics will cover new and emerging technologies that speed time to market, facilitate regulatory compliance, ultimately strengthening brand equity.

 

CTT (Booth #1358, Central Hall) will present five one-hour conference sessions each day of the show. Led by experts from Cisco, Jacobs Automation, Microsoft, Motorola Solutions, Rockwell Automation and Spectrum Control, the sessions will provide insight into a range of topics including security, line integration, remote access, cloud strategies, and more.

 

Sessions are free for PACK EXPO Las Vegas attendees. No advance registration is required to participate in the sessions.

Presentation Title: Exploring Packaging Line Integration Techniques

Packaging lines are often made up of varying equipment types containing disparate control systems, programming styles, and performance data, even when industry standards such as ISA-88 and PackML are followed. This makes integration of these assets into line control and line performance systems a challenge. While most manufacturers strive to continually optimize their production, integration of new packaging line assets is often a time consuming and costly task. Learn how new line integration concepts and technologies are enabling manufacturers to acquire machines with pre-tested equipment control and information interfaces that integrate seamlessly with a flexible line control and performance management system.

Hear about how emerging linear motor based intelligent track (iTRAK®) technology is changing application solutions across the industry. This session will look at the evolution of the iTRAK® system by Jacobs Automation. While previous motion control systems have been constrained by mechanical limitations like the pitch of a chain or the speed of a particular line, iTRAK® makes it possible to place multiple movers (or carriages) on a track and independently control the motion profile for each mover as a virtual axis.
