Shurtape expands ShurSEAL Solution with new quick change case sealing system

June 5, 2015

Tape roll changes can be time-consuming and costly to both line efficiency and the bottom line, especially in fast paced, high-volume environments where there’s just no time for downtime. That’s why Shurtape Technologies, LLC, a leading producer of pressure-sensitive tapes, has expanded its ShurSEAL Solution offering with a quick change system that combines Shurtape HP Series packaging tape with a revolutionary new PrimeLoc tape applicator that’s engineered to tackle slow tape roll changeovers, particularly in high-throughput operations.

When every second counts, the quick change sealing system gets the jobs done in seconds, rather than minutes, and delivers a secure, tamper-evident seal, carton after carton.

Easy on Lines
Quick replenishment of packaging tape is often hindered by the amount of time required to thread a new roll or to fix an incorrectly threaded tape applicator, resulting in stopped production and lost profit with each changeover.

The quick change sealing system is designed to tackle the downtime associated with tape roll changeovers. Rather than waste time with difficult thread paths that could take minutes, simply remove the empty insert and replace it with a second, pre-threaded insert – in as little as 10 seconds. The interchangeable inserts are universal to the top and bottom units, so there’s no need to store extra pieces. And, because the threading process is done off-line, errors and operator frustration are eliminated.

Easy on Operators
Tape roll changeovers can also place stress on operators who are tasked with replacing the tape rolls as quickly as possible to minimize production downtime. The straining and lifting associated with removing heavy tape applicators may increase their risk of back injuries – the costs related to such injuries could be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, not to mention the lost time that directly impacts your bottom line.

The quick change sealing system is designed with ergonomics in mind. The inserts are up to 60 percent lighter in weight than traditional tape applicators, making it easier to complete changeovers without excessive straining or heavy lifting. This is especially beneficial for bottom unit changeovers where heavier applicators need to be removed from the machine or in operations where operators must crawl on the floor to change tape rolls.

Secure Seals, Every Time
Plus, there’s no sacrifice of seal quality as the quick change sealing system is backed by the benefits of The ShurSEAL Solution, including:
• HP Series packaging tape, which offers the highest holding power to fiberboard in the industry and performs reliably to the core for efficient tape consumption with less waste
• Unmatched wipe-down force to keep carton seals intact
• Folded-Edge Technology, which reinforces seal strength and creates a ready-to-open seal that doesn’t require a knife
• Easy retrofit capabilities to revitalize existing case sealing equipment with minimal capital expenditures

“We’ve heard the frustration loud and clear...and we’re committed to changing the case sealing game. It’s time to put an end to laborious tape roll changes that slow production, place unneeded stress on workers and negatively impact your bottom line,” says Bill DeWitt, market manager for packaging, Shurtape. “The quick change sealing system builds upon the technology available with The ShurSEAL Solution and reinforces our dedication to improving performance, reducing costs and increasing the effectiveness of the case sealing process, including in operations where eliminating downtime is critical.”
