Sherwin-Williams has received the EPA’s Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award for a first-of-its-kind paint, which uses soybean oil and recycled PET bottles to cut air pollutants (known as volatile organic compounds) by 60 percent. The new paint formula, found in multiple Sherwin-Williams brands, is said to have reduced 800,000 pounds of VOC emissions in 2010. The $7.7 billion-company says that it’s supporting the recycling of multi-million pounds of PET each year with this new formulation.
