To celebrate the 40th birthday of its perfume "First,” famous fine jeweler Van Cleef & Arpels launches “So First.” The cap made by Axilone is a real aesthetical performance resulting of a very specific know how in injection of DuPont's Surlyn.

Back in the 70’s, Pierre Arpels came up with a completely new idea: to create the first fine jeweler’s perfume. “First” was born in 1976. Forty years later, Van Cleef & Arpels is bringing back to life the myth of “First” by creating “So First,” a modern interpretation of the legendary perfume.

Axilone produced both the cap and collar for this new design. The collar is made of ABS electroplated in shiny white bronze. The cap revives the iconic ring of the perfume which is made of clear Surlyn.

Challenge with raw materials

The choice of a soft ABS associated with the right plating process allows an easy and direct assembly on the pump. In order to achieve the flawless transparency of the cap, the fit of the collar was adjusted in the Surlyn to avoid an insert.

Rheology at the service of perfection

Axilone knew that is it was key to keep the highly perceived value of the raw material. It was also critical to determine the ideal position of the injection point on the side of the part. As experts in Surlyn, Axilone ran a 3D simulation to anticipate the injection flow. The optimum shape of the cap along with the exact position of the injection point could be confirmed at the very beginning of the project.

All components are delivered to the brand’s filling facility and ready to be assembled on the pump.
