Turkey breasts come in easy-open skin
Whole cooked turkey breasts from Butterball LLC now come in tear-away skin-tight packaging.
Fully Cooked Turkey Breasts from Butterball, Garner, N.C., can be sliced and eaten cold, or heated in microwave or conventional ovens. Before heating, the consumer removes the film covering by tearing off a strip and peeling. The packaging system, trade-named Grip & Tear, is from the Cryovac div. of Sealed Air Corp.
The packaging is referenced at the bottom front of the package, with a symbol and the words “Now with Easy Open Bag!” The film is printed so that graphics cover most of the front surface, but large corners at both ends are left clear to make the product visible.
Butterball has used Grip & Tear for products intended for supermarket and other delis, whose workers would slice them to order. Fully Cooked Turkey Breasts are the first consumer products to use the technology.
Butterball Fully Cooked Turkey Breast comes in four varieties: Deep Fried, Oven Roasted, Cherry Wood Smoked and Honey Smoked. They can be heated for 30 minutes in the oven or less than one minute in the microwave if sliced.
