An Italian company is packaging lemon juice in what’s billed as Europe’s first extrusion blow-molded bio-based bottle. Polenghi LAS, Piacenza, Italy, is using a bottle made of Ingeo polylactic acid (PLA) resin from NatureWorks LLC for its Bio Organic Lemon Juice. The shrink-sleeve label is also made from Ingeo, a plant-based resin that competes with polyethylene and polypropylene. The bottle’s graphics play up the bottle’s sustainability, with the product identified as “Organic Lemon in Eco Bottle” and the word “EcoBottle” repeated in a ring around the bottle’s neck. “We are extremely proud of the technical achievements that led to the development of this low-carbon-footprint Eco bottle, the first of its kind in Europe,” said Marco Polenghi, sales director of Polenghi LAS.
