A leading plastics industry publication is reporting that Coca-Cola’s showcase “bottle-to-bottle” PET recycling plant has closed. The plant in Spartanburg, S.C., opened two years ago as a joint venture between Coca-Cola and a recycling firm, amid great fanfare as the largest bottle-to-bottle plant for polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles.An articleinPlastics Newscited sources as saying that the entire production staff and almost all office personnel had been laid off early in March. In a statement toPlastics News, Coca-Cola said that “the joint venture...needs to be restructured” but added that “plans are in place to continue to operate” the facility, without providing details.
