Sustainable resin offers best of both worlds
August 1, 2008
With costs on the rise and packaging material waste being scrutinized, packagers are looking for lighter materials that perform just as well, if not better, than other resins on the market. Resin manufacturer Nova Chemicals has developed Surpass HPs167-AB, a high-density polyethylene resin, for use in barrier-film structures and with 50% stronger moisture barrier strength.
The resin, which is for use in packages where moisture-barrier performance or stiffness is important, can meet either of two crucial customer needs: strength and sustainability. If a customer needs more strength in a package, film gauge can be maintained to increase barrier and stiffness. However, if a customer is more concerned with sustainability, film gauge can be reduced while retaining performance.
