Communities nationwide help recycle 200 million drink pouches
Capri Sun to give away recycled playgrounds, park benches, and recycling bins to celebrate
To celebrate more than 200 million drink pouches kept out of landfills and almost $4 million donated to schools and charities, Capri Sun is now vastly increasing the prizes and benefits of recycling through the Drink Pouch BrigadeÒ. Starting in September, the free recycling program - operated by eco-pioneer TerraCycle – will include tiered rewards that allow participants to earn prizes as they also earn money for their school or charity.
Since 2007, Capri Sun has worked with TerraCycle to allow individuals, families and schools to collect and send empty drink pouches to be recycled through the Drink Pouch Brigade. For each piece of waste returned, participants earn points toward charity gifts or a cash donation to the school or charity of their choice. Collectively, schools and charities earned almost $4 million dollars in donation while helping to collect and recycle 200 million drink pouches. The program is free to any interested organization or individual, and all shipping costs are paid.
In addition to earning points for each piece of waste collected, participants now have the chance to win recycled park benches, garbage cans, and even a recycled playground made using Capri Sun pouches collected through the program.
“As the Drink Pouch Brigade reaches its sixth year, we are thrilled Capri Sun is giving dedicated collectors even more to look forward to this school year,” says Tom Szaky, CEO, TerraCycle. “We hope the prizes will encourage people to keep even more waste out of landfills and get the larger community involved.”
Capri Sunand TerraCycle also expanded the Drink Pouch Brigade to include Capri Sun Big Pouch and boosted the incentive structure. Participants who collect between 500 and 1,000 drink pouches will now receive a half-cent donation per pouch, allowing collectors at smaller institutions to get more involved and support a school or charity.
