Julie Ackerman MontrossNearly one-third of the nation’s top consumer packaged goods companies (CPGs) are located within 200 miles of Philadelphia. This makes the Northeastern United States a critical center for manufacturing and an ideal – yet, according to recent surveys of East Coast customers, underserved – market for presenting innovation and educational opportunities in manufacturing. PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, will fill the void with the introduction of PACK EXPO East (Feb. 16-18; Pennsylvania Convention Center, Philadelphia).

PACK EXPO East will be a resource for processors and packagers across a range of industries looking to improve the sustainability, efficiency, productivity and security of the manufacturing supply chain. The show will offer several features to guide attendees to the suppliers and information they need. These include the following:

• The Innovation Stage (Booth #696) will offer free 30-minute educational sessions.
• The Education Pavilion (Booth #697) will provide information on industry-related training, certificate and degree programs.
• The Packaging Design Studio (Booth #1067) will display packaging prototypes designed by students from the elite Packaging Engineering Program at Rutgers University.
• The Manufacturing Solutions Conference Program organized by the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) (Booth #997) will present best practices in manufacturing operations, new tools for regulating compliance and advances in pharma-centric packaging.

Of course, the aisles full of processing and packaging solutions will serve as the centerpiece of PACK EXPO East. Attendees will find next-generation technologies such as Sharp Packaging Systems’ (Booth #906) SX™, MAX12™ and MAX20™ bagging equipment. These updated technologies improve efficiency for mail-order fulfillment and parts packaging with the SX™ continuous roll bagging system, which is 10% smaller and 30% lighter than previous models.

ADCO Manufacturing (Booth #1227) will also display a new top load cartoning system that maximizes efficiency, speed and flexibility. The system, featuring ADCO’s RTL-2x two-axis robotic carton loader and InterACT intuitive machine interface, runs up to 400 packages per minute for a wide range food of and personal care applications and package formats.
