Boxed Water partners with National Forest Foundation to plant one million trees by 2020

Largest commitment to NFF’s tree-planting program kicks off with Boxed Water’s “Retree Project”

April 10, 2015

Boxed Water, an environmentally conscious and BPA-free alternative to bottled water, announces a partnership with National Forest Foundation (NFF, nationalforests.org) to plant one million trees by 2020. Boxed Water’s goal to plant one million trees represents the largest single tree-planting commitment to date for the NFF and marks the start of a five year effort to plant trees in areas of our National Forests with highest ecological significance.

The partnership will kick-off in April 2015 with the company’s commitment to plant two trees for each Boxed Water photo fans post to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #ReTree. With the help of consumers, Boxed Water aims to plant 100,000 trees in Oregon’s Deschutes National Forest as a result of photos submitted from April to June 2015.

“Boxed Water’s partnership with the National Forest Foundation allows us to make a significant investment in the renewable resources we use in our own products while helping to restore critical ecosystems and wildlife habitats,” says Jeremy Adams, vice president of marketing for Boxed Water. “The Retree Project puts consumers and fans in the driver’s seat and allows them to make a real environmental impact by taking a small everyday action – just as consumers are doing by switching from plastic bottles to Boxed Water.”

The new partnership with the NFF builds upon the brand’s commitment to create a more sustainable packaged water product that is not only better for consumers but also reduces the company’s carbon footprint. Available as single 500 ml and 1-liter sizes as well as a 500 ml six pack, Boxed Water cartons are filled in Holland, Michigan and triple filtered for purity using reverse osmosis, carbon filtration, and UV. Boxed Water cartons are made of trees from certified well-managed forests, recyclable, 100 percent BPA free and have a smaller carbon footprint than plastic water bottles. With the help of the NFF, Boxed Water will plant one million trees in the areas of highest ecological need within our National Forests by 2020.

“The NFF is proud to partner with an environmentally conscious company like Boxed Water. Their five-year commitment to plant one million trees is truly outstanding,” says Bill Possiel, NFF President. “With the help of partners like Boxed Water, willing to invest in the future of our environment, we are able to make a real difference for our National Forests and the communities that depend on them.”

The NFF is the only conservation organization specifically dedicated to supporting 155 National Forests and 20 Grasslands throughout the United States. The organization plants native trees on National Forests, with a focus on restoring critical ecosystems. The trees are cared for and protected through the NFF’s partnership with the U.S. Forest Service. Boxed Water’s commitment to plant one million trees will significantly expand the NFF’s reforestation efforts, starting with 100,000 trees this spring in Oregon’s Deschutes National Forest.
