The new Vacuum Tooling option for augers from Spee-Dee Packaging Machinery (spee-dee.com) provides a clean cut-off of product with no drips when filling.

Inadvertent clumps of product that drip between fills compromise the quality of package seals, aesthetically look sloppy and lead to lost revenue. Vacuum Tooling solves this problem on vertical form fill seal machines as it literally stops free-flowing and semi-free flowing mixes from dripping between fills – and it does so with no moving parts.

Vacuum Tooling works by using a dual funnel system that combines a screen and vacuum to instantly stop the flow of product between fills. The filler’s auger fits inside a central funnel, which has a multi-layer screen at the bottom. This all fits inside the outer vacuum funnel. When vacuum pressure is engaged, air is drawn through the filter to densify the powder. This vacuum action holds the product inside the tube and stops the flow of product.

An important feature of our Vacuum Tooling is that it has no moving parts. Other devices use pneumatic doors that open and close. But when filling at a rate of 50 to 60 bags per minute, the constant opening and closing leads to wear and tear of hinges, welds and other mechanical devices. With Vacuum Tooling, there’s no moving parts; nothing to break, which means lower maintenance, increased up time and potentially higher fill rates.

Features and benefits of Vacuum Tooling include:
• Vacuum control box includes an air driven vacuum pump, filters, vacuum gauge and compressed air gauge
• Heavy-duty 304 stainless steel construction for superior strength and long-lasting durability
• Sintered mesh stainless steel multi layer screen creates a precise vacuum chamber; ensures an absolute cut-off of product flow
