In lieu of a stigmatizing “special” phone for seniors, Samsung’s Out of the Box packaging concept works to respectfully bridge the digital divide.

The manuals are a set of hardbound books with cutouts that actually contain both the phone and its components. Die-cut pages reveal each setup device (the sim card, the battery, etc.) and use arrows to identify the point of insertion on the phone.

There are also wallet-sized flashcards that walk users through individual phone functions, like “how to use the calculator” or “add a new contact” and a subway-style map that illustrates the connection between all the menus, revealing the full functionality of the phone.
