Toray Plastics (America) Helps URI Break Ground on Engineering Complex
On April 24, Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo, University of Rhode Island (URI) President David M. Dooley, Toray Plastics (America) President and CEO Mike Brandmeier, URI College of Engineering Dean Raymond Wright, and Kalvin Cho, a URI College of Engineering student, broke ground on the construction of a new $125 million engineering complex at URI.
In 2014 Toray pledged $2 million for the project; the pledge was contingent on the passage of a bond referendum, which Rhode Islanders overwhelmingly approved in November of that year. The project will produce a 190,000-square-foot facility designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation that can evolve to meet the technology-driven changes in all sectors of engineering.
