A Michigan man is suing H.J. Heinz Co., alleging that the company stole his idea for single-serve condiment packets with thermoformed bottoms. David Wawrzynski sued Heinz in Wayne County, Mich., circuit court earlier this month, claiming that its Dip & Squeeze packet, introduced in February, is a ripoff of an idea he had submitted to the company in 2008. Wawrzynski says he had met with company officials and even, at their request, produced a prototype before Heinz backed out. A Heinz spokesperson says the lawsuit is groundless and without merit.
