“Less is More Redux,” “New Retro” and “Blurring Categories” are among the top 12 trends in consumer packaged goods from consulting firm Mintel. The recently released report details the trends and gives examples. Some that relate at least indirectly to packaging include: “Sustainability Stays Focused on the Basics,” which cited Quaker Chewy Granola Bars bound together with minimal material; “Professionalization of the Amateur,” which referenced Recipe Inspirations seasonings from McCormick; and “Cradle-to-Grave Brand Initiatives,” which talked about how packaging can help brand appeal across age or regional boundaries and cited Juicy Juice from Nestlé in carbonated form in a slim-line can.
