Recycle Rally Challenges consumers to decrease environmental impact

Dow’s 30 day challenge to help people build better recycling habits

July 3, 2014

To inspire people to decrease their environmental footprint and encourage them to participate in local recycling programs, Dow Packaging & Specialty Plastics (dow.com) is launching an awareness campaign called Recycle Rally – A 30 day Recycling Challenge. Based on the idea that it takes people 30 days to form a habit, this interactive campaign challenges users to make recycling part of their everyday routine, while offering information, tools and tips to help people become a better recycler.

Although Americans are familiar with recycling, they may not be as knowledgeable about how recycling reduces the amount of waste that is sent to landfills, or the fact that most people are not in the habit of recycling. In 2012, Americans generated 251 million tons of trash, but only recycled 34.5% of their waste. Dow views this campaign as a great opportunity to increase awareness about how recycling efforts can positively impact communities around the country.

?The Recycle Rally campaign is building on Dow’s strong commitment to sustainability, says Diego Donoso, business president Dow Packaging and Specialty Plastics. ?We see this as an excellent opportunity to not only increase recycling awareness, but to help build long-lasting habits that benefit the environment we all share.?

Push Outside of the Recycling Comfort Zone

Consumers can make a personal commitment to recycling today at recyclerally.com. No matter their level of recycling know-how, Recycle Rally is an interactive tool that is beneficial to everyone. Whether an individual views himself as an expert recycler or a novice that only recycles paper and glass, Recycle Rally is a great tool for people of all recycling backgrounds to use and ?step up? their recycling game. Recycle Rally can help individuals, families and communities elevate the way they view recycling and take ownership of their environmental impact—no step is too small.

Once you enter the interactive site and commit to the Recycle Rally challenge, participants will take a quiz to determine what level recycler they are – beginner, professional or expert. Based on their recycling results, each recycler profile will provide access to a wealth of tips, recycling statistics and fun facts tailored to their needs. These resources will challenge consumers to push outside of their recycling comfort zone to become a better recycler in your own community.

Recycle Rally is not only a fun challenge to commit to, but it’s also a great tool to share with family, friends, neighbors and industry stakeholders. Documenting progress throughout the 30 day challenge is a great way for participants to stay motivated, and they can encourage others to stick with their recycling commitment by leading through example. Using the hashtag #RecycleRallyon various social media platforms, such as Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook, will allow consumers to join the exciting conversation and view how others are also decreasing their impact on landfills.
