Ardagh Group (ardaghgroup.com) and Duerr’s have been awarded Best Packaging Design for their unique citrus jar at the World Food Innovation Awards, organized by FoodBev Media. Judges were impressed by the design innovation in the intricate detailing of the jar’s texture, commenting:

"Looks like peel, feels like peel! All round great packaging design. No wonder shoppers can’t wait to buy, use and then repurpose the jars."

And: "This design strikes a perfect balance between meeting the aesthetic expectations of the customer and the practicalities of volume production."

Ardagh’s designers were given a specific brief by Duerr’s managing director Mark Duerr to develop a totally unique jar that looked and felt like citrus fruit. What on paper sounded a straightforward project was in fact full of technical challenges. To create a stunning and tactile ‘citrus’ jar to the right size and scale, and replicate the peel effect.

Sales and marketing director Richard Duerr says: “We’re absolutely thrilled that our new jar has been awarded with best packaging design. The new packaging has totally transformed the fixture, with shoppers already saying they can’t wait to use the jars as anything from candle holders to cocktail glasses once the contents have all been enjoyed! Working with Ardagh to develop our new look has given us real on-shelf stand out, so it’s great to see their work commended.”

FoodBev Media Marketing Director Isabel Sturgess adds: “Every year we are fascinated by the real level of innovation that is shown within the entries. We see new flavours, new concepts, all the way to clever packaging and successes in environmental responsibility. The World Food Innovation Awards really showcase the best of the best in the global food and beverage industry.”
