PaperWorks Industries (paperworksindustries.com), an integrated North American full-service provider of recycled paperboard and specialized folding cartons for packaging applications, has won four prestigious 2018 Paperboard Packaging Council Competition carton awards.

The company was awarded the Gold Award in the general category for its KFC Canada triple Grab N’ Go carrier. The same carton was given an Excellence Award in the Innovations category. PaperWorks was also given Excellence Awards in the Eco and General categories for its Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Club Store Pack.

PaperWorks’ PacDev Design + Innovation team was tasked with designing a fast food carrier for KFC Canada that could transport three, 54-oz. buckets. The objective was to design a structure that met the performance, assembly-at-retail and aesthetic requirements. The solution was an innovative, proprietary paperboard structure which uses carrier’s base, plus two additional “platforms,” to create placement positions for each of the three 54-ounce buckets. The end result was a stackable, supported carrier that holds the three buckets in position, promotes the brand, enables venting, assembles quickly and offers an easy way to transport the food home.

For Proctor & Gamble’s Magic Eraser clubstore pack, PaperWorks produced an innovative folding carton solution. The front of one carton was mated with the back of a second to create a 360 degree billboard. The front of pack features a die-cut window that displays the product. Usage instructions are on the side panel. The new solution eliminates several packaging components (thermoformed tub, lid, labels and corrugated trays) used previously. The use of multilevel sculpted embossing on the product image, along with embossing of the product name, enhance the carton. Further, a UV spot gloss coating was added to the embossed areas to add shimmer and shine.
