The “Hybrid Chill Roll” was designed by the Menges Engineering Team to overcome inner chamber concerns seen in typical chill rolls (which are double-shelled and filled with a thermal transfer liquid). On a standard chill roll, the interior chamber is susceptible to oxidation (rusting), scaling (mineral deposits), and corrosion. This is because, with a traditional design, steel is used on the inner surface of the outer shell, the outer surface of the inner shell, and on the attached spiral wrap. When this material breaks down inside the roller, it leads to loss of thermal transfer performance (the roll doesn’t get as hot/cold as it should), and poor-quality output for the converter.

Portola Packaging, Inc. is announcing a $12 million capital expenditure in its Kingsport, TN and Tolleson, AZ facilities. The investment is being made to accommodate growing market demand for its hot-fill and aseptic beverage closures and increased dairy business market share.

Klöckner Pentaplast’s line of SmartCycle post-consumer recycled content polyester films produced in North America has been granted a “Certificate of Verification” by NSF International, an independent, third party, not-for-profit organization. The certificate verifies the recycled content claims of kp’s line of SmartCycle polyester films produced in North America and allows customers who use these films to be confident that the PCR-content claim is true and valid.
