Common Cider expands into cans

December 21, 2015

Fresh, innovative and delicious. That’s the mantra behind Common Cider, an artfully crafted line of ciders making waves on the west coast. Previously sold exclusively in glass bottles, the company recently expanded its packaging to include Rexam’s (rexam.com) 12 oz. Sleek® cans for its top selling flavors – Blood Orange Tangerine and Hibiscus Saison.

Created to pair well with food and encourage family and friends to enjoy time together, Common Cider’s recipes start with fresh-pressed apples and include natural extracts of fruits and botanicals to create layers of flavor. Common Cider varieties are light and crisp, naturally low in sugar and gluten-free.

“We don’t just brew ciders, we craft moments,” says Fran Toves, owner, Common Cider Company. “Our goal with our cider is to bring people together, spark conversation, bolster friendships and create memories. I got into the cider business in hopes of combining my passion for flavor experimentation and my love of shared times to create something rare and delicious. So far it seems to be working as more and more consumers embrace our unique blends. Our partnership with Rexam allows us to introduce a package that matches our persona and we hope will help us take our business to the next level.”

The company has already benefited from the growth trajectory that cider has been on in recent years. This retail category was up 94% in 2014, according to data from Information Resources, Inc. (IRI).

Common Cider decided it was a good time to add Rexam Sleek cans to its portfolio because they provide an on-the-go single serve packaging option that delivers many inherent benefits. Portable, durable and unbreakable, cans are allowed many places that glass is not. They are light weight and able to be recycled, converted to cans again and back on retail shelves within 60 days. This helps make cans the most sustainable option, recycled at double the rate of any other beverage package.

Claude Marbach, president, Rexam BCNA, says Common Cider picked the perfect package to expand its consumer reach. “Our 12 oz. Sleek cans will help their ciders stand out on store shelves, with a look that demands attention. They also deliver the best in supply chain economics through superior recycling, filling, distribution and retail display efficiencies that go a long way in helping the company continue to build its business.”

Common Ciders in Rexam Sleek cans are currently available at select retail locations including Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s in California and Nevada.
