B&G Foods, Inc. announced today the latest innovation in the growing line of Green Giant® frozen veggie swap-ins – Green Giant Veggie Spirals™. These spiral-shaped vegetables are a great alternative to pasta and will initially be available in Zucchini, Carrots and Butternut Squash varieties.
Green Giant Veggie Spirals are 100% vegetables, with no sauces or seasonings and provide consumers with an easy way to add more nutritious veggies to any meal. Each variety of Green Giant Veggie Spirals is gluten-free, Paleo-friendly, low calorie and ranges from 65-90% fewer carbs than traditional pasta.
Recipe-ready Green Giant Veggie Spirals allow consumers to conveniently swap-in more veggies, without the time, trouble and product waste of spiraling their own vegetables. Frozen at the peak of freshness, Green Giant Veggie Spirals are ready to heat and serve as a standalone dish, a tasty side or as a delicious addition to a soup or salad.
“The Green Giant frozen vegetable innovations that we launched last fall have been very successful, proving that consumers are hungry to embrace Green Giant once again while incorporating new formats and varieties of vegetables in their diet,” states Robert C. Cantwell, president and chief executive officer of B&G Foods. “Purchase data shows that Green Giant frozen innovation products have not only brought new consumers to the Green Giant brand, but have also brought new consumers to the overall frozen vegetable category. The power of Green Giant is real and B&G Foods is proud to have begun reinvigorating this beloved brand as we continue to roll out new product innovations to meet the demands of today’s consumers.”
In addition to introducing such an innovative product to the frozen category, Green Giant is also debuting the PrimaPak® package, a next generation hybrid packaging technology for Green Giant Veggie Spirals. This patented and versatile technology, produced by a joint venture, including Sonoco Flexible Packaging, acts as a bowl and allows consumers to blend ingredients, conveniently heat and serve without additional dishes. The semi-rigid, rectangular container with peel and reseal functionality limits waste through the use of less plastic compared to traditional trays.
Green Giant Veggie Spirals are expected to be in stores nationwide starting in January 2018.
B&G Foods purchased the Green Giant brand in November 2015, and through new product innovation and enhanced marketing has increased distribution and net sales of Green Giant frozen vegetables.
