Working toward its goal of producing two billion special PET plastic bottles by the end of 2010, Coca-Cola began introducing its PlantBottle into select markets in November. Coca-Cola beverages like Coca-Cola, Sprite and Dasani will be sold in the new packaging format in the coming months. In Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles, specifically, the PlantBottle packaging will begin appearing with sparkling brands and Dasani in January 2010. The PET bio-plastic bottles are 100 percent recyclable and are made partially from plants, reducing the company’s dependency on petroleum. “Our vision is to continue innovating to achieve a bottle that is made with 100 percent plain-waste material while remaining completely recyclable,” says Scott Vitters, director of sustainable packaging at The Coca-Cola Co.
