Cleveland-based packaging manufacturer Tap Packaging Solutions received a 2017 HP Inkspiration Award for the Americas for its exceptional use of digital print technology in the folding carton market.

Tap’s winning submission was the Albeit “Art Deco” Shimmering Powder Palette, which placed under the Labels and Packaging/Health & Beauty category. The Albeit Shimmering Powder Palette carton was manufactured for Tap’s client Benevolent Beauty and printed digitally on Tap’s HP Indigo 30000 digital press.

“We’re honored to receive a 2017 HP Inkspiration Award, especially since this is the second year in a row that Tap has won,” says Jaime Wilhelm Choudhury, design manager at Tap Packaging Solutions.

Working with Maggie Wedemeyer, owner of Benevolent Beauty, Tap was challenged with matching an existing carton that had previously been manufactured overseas. Because of the HP Indigo 30000’s ability to print on any off-the-shelf substrate and its ability to print without the use of printing plates or waste to get up to color, the HP Indigo 30000 digital printing press was the ideal solution. Tap’s design and engineering team captured the look and perfectly matched color on a unique embossed Ecological Fibers bright white SBS -- successfully transitioning an offset, off-shore carton to a digitally produced domestic textured carton.

This was the 2nd annual HP Inkspiration Awards for the Americas in partnership with Dscoop, which recognizes the most innovative work produced with HP digital printing technology. At Dscoop Phoenix, 17 awards were presented to 15 HP customers in multiple categories across general commercial printing, labels and packaging and page-wide printing segments for unique applications. There were 148 entries from more than 57 HP customers in the Americas. Tap was selected as an award winner in the category of Folding Cartons for the second year in a row.
